Resmi Al Kafaji was born in Diywania, Iraq and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad. In 1977, he moved to Florence, Italy and graduated from the Accademia di Belle Art in Florence. His work draws from his experiences both in Europe and the Middle East, creating a dialogue between cultures that is authentic to the artist’s life. Since his last visit to Iraq in 2003, after 28 years of exile, Al Kafaji’s work has been exclusively black and white.
He has held several solo shows, notably at the Galleria Immaginaria and at the Prato. He has also participated in numerous group shows including at the Art London in 2015 and, most recently, at Art Dubai in 2016.
