Maroun El Hakim was born in Lebanon in 1950. He received his BFA in Fine Arts from the Lebanese University in 1975. He received a diploma in ceramics from the Fine Arts Institute of Rome in 1976. He served as the head of the Lebanese Artists Syndicate from 2002-2009 and established the Syndicate of Fine Artists in Lebanon in 2002. He has held 31 international solo exhibitions and more than 100 collaborative shows. He has received many teaching, honorary, and artistic awards. Currently he is a professor at the Lebanese University, where he headed the Fine Arts Department from 1986-2013. He works and resides in his hometown Mazraat Yachouh in Lebanon. His sculptures and paintings are in private and public institutions in Lebanon and around the world.
